I can load 100 UAD plugins within the UAD console without a hiccup: UAD DSP jumps to 40 and my computers CPU utilization increases to 29.4. By default.the UAD Console uses 21 of my CPU and 13 of my UAD DSP. They called me and said we will give you a brand new Multiface 2 if you would like that instead. Additionally, if you insert UAD plugins within the UAD console/mixer.you get very little bump in CPU usage. I like the UAD plug ins, which there are a lot of.
Of course you can bus to a single track for economy. The quad will handle about four UAD plugins, (maybe another one depending on the plugin) before running out of processing power, which has been fine for two tracks.

**I also just remembered that one time many years ago when lightning took out my Multiface and it had to go back to the company. I use it for personal stuff or recording tracks that I then send to a pro studio.

The only improvement I ever made to it was adding a Lavry DAC to replace using the internal DAC of the RME which was a nice upgrade in sonic quality. I think you already made your purchase but wanted to put in another unbreakable loyalty to RME and their driver/hardware quality. I will never buy any other audio interface as long as I live if RME keeps this level of quality control.

The hardest part was simply understanding it and figuring out how to use the absolute amazing power of TotalMix software. It's the only piece of audio gear I have never had 1 single issue with. It has almost been 2 decades and I am STILL using RME Multiface. I went to Guitar Center where a salesman told me trust me, (that in itself had me second guessing everything else he said), the RME Multiface is the best card you can get for the money in the world.

Selling my two Apollos to fund the Carbon - another plus there, in my case, anyway, cost of the Carbon unit gonna be lower than a 'cold' purchase.I had an M-Audio interface that gave me problems almost 2 decades ago. But for now, I'm super happy with the Carbon. I'll still have my two quad satellites to handle old sessions, and perhaps still use some of the UAD plugs I'll keep from the previous system. Those plug-ins wont work at all without one of those. You can achieve the same DSP processing power. You need some kind of UAD hardware - either the Apollo, or the Satellite, or the UAD-2 PCI card. You can achieved the same sonic equivalent with less money and without a hardware dongle. I have an Apollo Twin in my editing suite. My UA system is 3 Apollo x8ps and 2 UAD satellites. And since there are DSP and native options for all these plugs means the onboard DSP processing can be used when tracking, but moved to native when mixing. I use the UAD plugins heavily in the Console during tracking and I do use them somewhat lightly while mixing. I'll add that AAX DSP plugins can mirror/replace a lot of the UAD plugs, too via Plugin Alliance. It's true! Once you track JUST using Pro Tools without any Console/workarounds, and near 1ms latency, man, so refreshing! you KNOW that you're now hearing what you've been missing all along." Once you experience this near zero latency, and within Pro Tools without jumping thru different settings/consoles/buffers/etc. If you watched any of the announcement videos, there was one where the guy mentions (paraphrased): "Having near zero latency, once you hear it, you say to yourself 'Ah, that's what I've been missing.' We've all been using our home/semi-pro systems and just kinda 'working around' the latency thing. The biggest winning thing I'll chime in on is DSP LATENCY. The pros listed for Carbon I can agree with 100%. UAD Plug-In Licensing Explained.UAD plug-in licenses are tied to your UA account and are arranged within your account by 'system'. Learning Luna "because it's gonna be really good someday!" just wasn't working out for me. And I tried Luna, but it didn't feel 'finished'. If the current owner selects Transfer Plug-ins: NO then only the UAD-2/Apollo device will be transferred. If the current owner selects Transfer Plug-ins: YES then ALL of the registered plugins in that System will be transferred to the new owner's UA account along with the UAD-2/Apollo device. Console App felt like a tedious & additional layer to get sounds into PT. Users cannot select individual plugins to transfer. I could feel and hear it right away.Īs far as pros/cons, I'll say the pros for Apollo never really resonated with me using Apollo (sorry, not sorry). Granted, it wasn't an A-B comparison, but man, this thing just sounds good. Once I heard playback via Carbon I could hear right away greater clarity and detail I'd not heard/remembered in my other systems.
Before THAT, I was working with a PT HD-Accel with blueface 192, etc.
Before those, I had a quad firewire silverface. Moved to Carbon from a dual Apollo system (Apollo 8 and a 16, both blackface, but not X series). I learned on tape, used PT for over 2 decades, so this is my reference point. over the years, but it's always back to PT for me. I'll chime in as someone who's a LIFER with Pro Tools.
